Victorian households can claim a rebate for their solar PV system installed on or after 19 August 2018, or their solar hot water replacement for a hot water system that’s at least 3 years old from the date of purchase.
This is one of the Victorian government’s more recent strategies to encourage more households in Victoria to go greener and switch to solar. By helping households reduce their electricity bills, the government hopes to continue the upward trend of solar power installations in the region.
The rebates are offered through the Solar Homes Package. A household can claim only one of the rebates: up to $2,225 for the installation costs of solar PV system OR a $1,000 rebate for the replacement costs of a hot water system with solar hot water.
How to claim your rebate
The applicant is required to apply for either of the abovementioned rebate themselves; their solar retailer cannot make the application on their behalf.
Below are the steps to apply for a rebate:
- Apply for eligibility. This can only be done through Solar Victoria. Eligibility requirements include answering a short questionnaire and providing documents that support eligibility criteria.
- Installation. This is for households who have yet to install a solar PV system or solar hot water system.
- Rebate application. If you are eligible for the rebate, Solar Victoria will send you an email with your eligibility number and the rebate application form.
Processing of either application takes about 2-3 weeks. If you are unable to complete the online application form, you can request for a hard copy version; contact 1300 363 744 or send an email to email@example.com.
